As the weather warms up and nature begins to bloom, spring is the perfect time for kids to get outdoors and try something new. It’s also a time when parents across BC are searching for activities to keep their kids active and entertained during spring break. And if those activities happen to be out in the fresh air and away from screens, even better!
Thankfully, nature-based spring break camps throughout BC exist to encourage exploration, connection and learning outdoors. At Wild & Immersive, our spring break camps run in March and April with registration starting in October every year. Spots fill up fast, so you’ll want to register early.
In this article, we’ll cover the benefits of outdoor spring break camps for kids and parents, and the unique experience Wild & Immersive’s camps offer youth in Maple Ridge. Plus, we’ll provide tips to help parents get prepared for spring break camps in 2026.
Exploring the Many Benefits for Kids
Outdoor-based camps like Wild & Immersive offer a number of benefits that keep kids mentally and physically active during their two-week break. In the natural forest setting, the diverse range of outdoor activities encourage teamwork and creative problem solving. Parents often report that their child comes home from these camps with more confidence and a deeper connection with nature. Let’s take a closer look at some of these benefits.
Growing their confidence
By experiencing a new environment, kids get to challenge themselves outside of familiar boundaries. At outdoor spring break camps, they’ll be making independent decisions and finding solutions on their own, which helps them to build self-confidence.
Learning creative problem solving
At nature-based camps, learning happens by doing. From navigating to knot tying or shelter building, children are encouraged to learn new skills and think on their feet to solve real challenges.
Being part of a team
Spring break outdoor camps provide an opportunity to make new friends outside of school. Working together in teams and group challenges, kids get to practice their teamwork skills and learn the importance of collaboration.
Staying active and adventurous
Outdoor adventures get kids moving in a way that feels natural. Whether hiking through forest trails or taking part in group learning activities, their bodies and minds will stay active throughout the day.
Connecting with nature up close
Unlike typical spring break camps, outdoor programs bring kids closer to nature. They get to explore the wilderness, observe wildlife and learn important survival skills. Through these experiences, children learn to appreciate the environment and understand their role in protecting it.
There Are Benefits for Parents Too
While spring break is exciting for kids, it can be a stressful time for busy parents, especially those who are juggling work and other responsibilities. Coordinating childcare, play dates and activities every day over the break can be overwhelming. Fortunately, outdoor spring break camps provide a great solution with action-packed days spent outside. Here are some of the unique advantages.
Beyond basic childcare
When parents start searching for “spring break camps near me,” they’re often looking for more than just basic supervision. They want a meaningful experience their child will enjoy. Outdoor spring break camps offer exactly that – a chance for kids to explore, play, and grow in nature.
Stress free and screen free
Outdoor camps provide a full-day of activities, easing the minds of parents who have busy schedules over spring break. Knowing their child is spending the day outside learning new skills instead of being inside on screen is a win-win.
Peace of mind and values aligned
For parents who prioritize outdoor play and environmental awareness, nature-based spring break camps are a natural fit. Parents can feel assured that their child will gain a lasting appreciation for the outdoors.
Helping kids with a healthy routine
Outdoor camps often include a consistent schedule with a clear plan of activities, and reliable support from dedicated camp staff. This structure makes for a smoother transition when kids head back to school after the break.

Tips to Help Parents Be Prepared
You’ll want to ensure your child is equipped with everything they need to enjoy their time to the fullest at spring break camp. Here is a list of our top five tips to help you get them ready:
- Remember to register early
Registration opens in October every year for our spring break camps, so set yourself a reminder to secure your spot early in the new year so you don’t miss out. - Get them dressed for outdoor success
Even in spring, the weather can be unpredictable. You’ll want to make sure your child has appropriate clothing and footwear for all weather conditions. - Pack foods to fuel their adventures
Make sure to pack a lunch (nut-free please), along with a water bottle and some snacks to keep them energized throughout the day. - Leave the tech and toys behind
Wild & Immersive camps are about deepening a connection with nature through outdoor activities and play. That means removing distractions like electronics and personal toys. - Talk it through beforehand
If this is your child’s first time at an outdoor camp, talk about it with them before the camp begins. Giving them an idea of the schedule and the fun activities they’ll take part in will help them know what to expect and alleviate their concerns.
What Parents Are Saying About Our Camps
My son had so much to say after one day out in the forest! Games, birds, bats, rolling, and playing. Thank you for giving him this positive forest experience!
– Moe
I just wanted to send a huge thanks, my son attended one day of the camp and he LOVED it. He struggles with anxiety and the staff were so amazing and kind. When I picked him up he was all smiles and said he loved camp (I was expecting a full meltdown). So thank you to everyone for such a wonderful experience – we will be back next year!
